New Commercial's Mantra

Hey Folks

Though Television is one of the biggest techno break through of the century, entertaining millions of people, it is the commercials  which had stayed in the minds of us than the programmes. Advertising has evolved to different stages like anyother industry and here we share the latest transformation it had gone through in the case of using children to promote food and beverages, we are  sure you will enjoy reading this and will think of this blog whenever an ad commercial pops in your television.

Adults replace children in food MNCs ads !

Companies Finally Follow India Pledge

The latest Maggi noodles TV commercial features two wrinkled old men, with hearing aids, flying kites on a roof as they argue in trembling voices about the flavour of instant noodles. The commercial comes as a surprise to viewers used to watching kids shout Mummy bhookh lagi (Mom Im hungry),with the mother replying, two minutes, and Nestles Maggi is not alone. In the food and beverages sector, top companies such as Pepsico (Frito-Lay ),Kraft Foods (Cadbury) and Hindustan Unilever (Kwality Walls) too are now using adults for TV commercials. So,where have all the kids vanished and why the answer to that query lies in a European Union Pledge undertaken by 11 Food Industry giants such as Nestle,Unilever,Coca Cola,Pepsico way back in 2007. Under that oath, the MNCs agreed not to use children under the age of 12 in advertisements shown in the European Union countries.

A group of global food and beverage manufacturers agreed to adopt a worldwide voluntary commitment to advertise to children under 12 only products that meet specific nutrition criteria.

In MAY last year, eight food MNCs such as Nestle, Hindustan Unilever, Pepsico, Kellogg's extended that oath to India in what was called the India Pledge. They, however, had missed their December 31,2010 deadline to put up the details of their new child-friendly policy online for review. What we are witnessing now are the first steps of putting that pledge into practice.

The move has made wideranging impact in the advertising industry. Media planners feel that with diversification in the product lineup, it makes sense to steer the conversation away from children. Every category is trying to expand market share by reaching out to a wider range of consumers, like whole wheat noodles for adults, or 'dahi' for kids as flavoured yoghurt, says advertising copywriter Sudhir Das.

Pepsicos Frito-Lay, once marketed aggressively with the childrens toy tazos, has now signed up Saif Ali Khan, a 41-year old father of two, as brand ambassador. The Meethe mein kya hai campaign from Cadburys Dairy Milk does feature children, but tries to position the product as something of a family dessert. Even Kwality Walls products like Cornettto feature youth in their television commercials.

There is also the feeling that the client has finally loosened up enough to consider creative solutions that go beyond what marketing research dictates. Copywriter Utsav Khare thinks it makes sense to reach out to a wider demography, and, Nestle spokesperson Himanshu Manglik agrees when he talks of the recent Maggi campaigns. The storyline consciously reflects the very strong connect of the product with consumers across all age groups in the family, he says.

However, not all signatories have made a complete transition. HULs Knorr, with its khao piyo campaign for noodle soups with Kajol can still be seen on air. But as most adults would agree, children today are not what children once used to be. You don't necessarily need to spin fantastic tales around a creature who can stretch its limbs for kilometers to sell them gum, as in the case of Big Babool. For Center Fresh, also from Perfetti (not a signatory to the pledge), a grown man telling his father that he has failed his exams yet again did just as well. A 12-year old is really 18 today. You don't need to speak to them in a different language. If an ad can entertain them or make them laugh, it works, says Khare.

Adman and Hindi film songwriter Prasoon Joshi too points out the difference between selling to children and using children to sell a product. He cites the example his Alpenlibe commercial starring Kajol and a crocodile. Children loved it! It's a very adult view, that children would like different things. They like the same actors as the adults, for example, says Joshi. So the next time you see middle-aged men and women trying to sell you the latest brand of candy, you can rest assured they're not kidding you.

Hi Friends, though its a sunny day, things that revolve around us is keeping us all going ..................

Though it's a Tea Break, still thought of writing about Coffee and one of the best hang outs   we are blessed with in today's fast world.

CAFE MOCHA

Cafe Mocha is a variant of Coffee Latte ( Coffee made of hot milk ) inspired by the Turin coffee beverage Bicerin. It is made of one fourth Espresso (concentrated coffee beverage ) and two third of Steamed Milk. Chocolate is added in the form of sweet cocoa powder, though many varieties add chocolate syrups too. Coffee Mochas can contain dark or milk chocolate.

Coffee Mocha takes its name from the Red Sea coastal town of Mocha - Yemen a very dominant exporter of Coffee especially around Arabian Peninsula. Mocha is also used to describe a coffee bean with a " Chocolatey" taste - smaller and rounder than most other varieties, these beans are derived from coffee species " Coffee Arabica " - native of Ethopia and Yemen.

" Mocha Coffee" can refer to either coffee with chocolate drink or coffee brewed with Mocha beans, which are originally cultivated in Yemen and exported through the Port of Mocha.

KFC - The Man Behind The Taste

Hi Friends, welcome us on board, me Jenifer and my friend Santosh will be sharing and learning many interesting things through this small window so called BLOG.

Since this is our first blog we would like to share some thing very yummy - the story of a fast food which made the world go crazy.

KFC ( Kentucky Fried Chicken )

Kentucky Fried Chicken is a fast food company based out of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. They have been a brand and operating segment and termed a concept of Yum brands since 1977, till that company spun off from pepsico as Tricon Global Restaurants Inc.  Kentucky Fried Chicken sells Chicken Pieces, Wraps, Salads and Sandwiches although Fried Chicken is its primary focus. However, outside US, the sell beef and pork also.

Kentucky Fried Chicken was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1952, it abbreviated its name to KFC in 1991. Yum continues to use the abbreviated name freely in its advertising.

Sanders served Fried Chicken during 1930's great depression at a gas station and named it as Sander's Court and Cafe and was given the title of Honarary Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his contribution to state's cuisine.

The Original secret recipe of Colonel was devised in 1940 and consists of 11 Herbs and Spices that creates the famous " Finger Lickin Good Chicken"  and the recipe remains a trade secret even now. Infact only two of their executives had handled the documents in all these years.

KFC, initially used Fat oil and once there was a case registered by Centre for Science in the Public Interest and after which they started to use Trans Fat Free oil which reduced heart ailments.

This is the story all about KFC and tomorrow we shall meet you with a new and different facts.

Thanks
Jeni and Santo.
